Advanced Eyecare Equipment
In the ever-evolving field of healthcare, advancements in technology have significantly transformed the way we diagnose and treat various conditions. Eye care, in particular, has witnessed remarkable advancements in technology for diagnostic precision.
Ensuring crisp vision with the most up to date prescription is only one part of a good eye exam. At Comly Eye Care we use retinal photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and visual fields to detect, monitor, and treat many diseases of the eye including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and more.
Retinal Imaging
Retinal imaging uses special cameras and scanners to get a clear, enlarged image of the back of the eye. This improves diagnosis and aids in monitoring the subtle changes of progression.
Retinal imaging is not covered by OHIP.
Fundus Auto-Fluorescence
This is a great tool for looking at cell functionality. It is a fantastic tool for early diagnosis and monitoring disease progression.
OCT - Optical Coherence Tomography
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an imaging technique that uses light waves to take cross-sectional scans of the structures of the eye. This gives a detailed visualization within the retina’s distinctive layers and optic nerve. It can measure the thickness of these layers and aids in the diagnosis and management of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and many other eye diseases.
With OCT's incredible accuracy and efficiency, eye care professionals can detect and monitor ocular diseases at their earliest stages and make informed decisions regarding treatment options.
OCT is not covered by OHIP.
Visual Field Testing
Peripheral vision, side vision, or indirect vision, is vision as it occurs outside the point of fixation (away from the center of gaze). Therefore you may have good central vision while having a loss of peripheral vision. This is also known as “Tunnel Vision”.
Visual field testing allows us to detect any peripheral field loss, which many times goes undetected since we have two eyes where one eye makes up for the other and by the sheer fact that we pay less attention to our side vision.
At Comly Eye Care, our peripheral visual field testing allows us to detect loss of visual fields early, when it can be most successfully treated. Peripheral vision loss may be caused from:
Glaucoma
Brain damage from stroke, disease, or injury
Compression of the optic nerve from tumours or increased spinal fluid pressure
Detached retina
“Strokes” inside the eye or occlusion of blood vessels
Retinal artery or vein occlusions
Neurological damage
Retinitis pigmentosa
This test is usually covered under OHIP
